2026 Workshop Convection and Turbulence in Shallow Atmospheric layers

As part of the French ANR MOBYDYC project, a 1‑day scientific workshop is organized in Sorbonne Université, Paris (France) on January 29 in a hybrid format. The workshop aims to bring together researchers working on atmospheric convection, boundary-layer turbulence, and shallow clouds.

Topics

The workshop focuses on processes occurring in shallow atmospheric layers, which include the Dry Convective Boundary Layers, cloud-topped layers (Stratocumulus, Altocumulus), and Shallow Cumulus Clouds. Particular emphasis will be given to:

Spatial organisation of convective structures and clouds
Boundary‑layer dynamics and turbulence
Mechanisms of low‑cloud feedback

Discussions will cover results from observations (satellite data, field campaigns), modelling (large-eddy simulations, climate models) and theoretical approaches.

The goal is to foster interactions across communities, promote collaborations, and advance our understanding of shallow cloud dynamics and their role in climate.

Discussion groups on specific topics are planned onsite for the following day (Friday 30th). The program is currently being prepared, with more information to follow.
