2026 Workshop Convection and Turbulence in Shallow Atmospheric layers
As part of the French ANR MOBYDYC project, a scientific workshop has been organized in Sorbonne Université, Paris (France) on January 29, 2026 in a hybrid format, followed by discussion groups on January 30. The workshop aims to bring together researchers working on atmospheric convection, boundary-layer turbulence, and shallow clouds.
Topics
The workshop focused on processes occurring in shallow atmospheric layers, which include the Dry Convective Boundary Layers, cloud-topped layers (Stratocumulus, Altocumulus), and Shallow Cumulus Clouds. Particular emphasis had been given to:- Spatial organisation of convective structures and clouds
- Boundary‑layer dynamics and turbulence
- Mechanisms of low‑cloud feedback
Discussions cover results from observations (satellite data, field campaigns), modelling (large-eddy simulations, climate models) and theoretical approaches.
The goal is to foster interactions across communities, promote collaborations, and advance our understanding of shallow cloud dynamics and their role in climate.
Program, slides and videos
- The final version of the program is available here (Thursday) and here (Friday).
- Slides and recordings will soon be avialable on the website.
