2026 Workshop Convection and Turbulence in Shallow Atmospheric layers

As part of the French ANR MOBYDYC project, a scientific workshop has been organized in Sorbonne Université, Paris (France) on January 29, 2026 in a hybrid format, followed by discussion groups on January 30. The workshop aims to bring together researchers working on atmospheric convection, boundary-layer turbulence, and shallow clouds.

Topics

The workshop focused on processes occurring in shallow atmospheric layers, which include the Dry Convective Boundary Layers, cloud-topped layers (Stratocumulus, Altocumulus), and Shallow Cumulus Clouds. Particular emphasis had been given to:

Discussions cover results from observations (satellite data, field campaigns), modelling (large-eddy simulations, climate models) and theoretical approaches.

The goal is to foster interactions across communities, promote collaborations, and advance our understanding of shallow cloud dynamics and their role in climate.
